Skyara was created by Steven Ou, Jonathan Wu, and Dennis Liu in 2010. The site was intended to form a marketplace for experiences, where users could share and provide input on local services. The site also allowed users a number of convenient features, such as online booking and contact details for each service provider. Today, the Skyara team remains small but the site has grown to include many users and businesses.
Many websites long ago learned the benefit of creating a platform for users to share experiences so that others can make good choices. The concept is nothing new and other sites like Skyara are out there. The site does offer a well organized layout and plenty of helpful information. Along with user reviews, business profiles are complimented by images, a contact link, and online booking feature. Descriptions are also available as well as cancellation penalties if any exist. The user has all the information they need up front before paying for a reservation.
The Skyara website compliments the service it offers. Users can easily locate information without wading through clutter. Each business profile includes easy to use navigation buttons that allow users to learn more, map the location, or review the businesses’ availability through an online calendar. All features are easily accessible and the user can quickly adapt without much effort. The site also includes full color images that go with each business listing to further entice users to book service.
A new user can create a Skyara account by clicking on the white “Sign Up” link at the top right hand corner of the homepage. The registration form is short and clean, requesting a first name, last name, email address, password, and referral code (if the user has one, this step is optional). After clicking the aqua blue continue button, the user is advised to check their email for an activation code to complete registration. Users can then enter their email and choose a location to begin receive email updates as new businesses and communities become a part of the Skyara network.
Anyone can visit the Skyara website and create an account. Visitors that are interested in booking services can do so for free. The only cost associated with Skyara is money spent to make the reservation. Those who wish to join up as a service provider can also do so for free. Listings do not cost anything, however when the business receives a paid booking through Skyara, they are charged a 12% fee.
Skyara is a good way for local businesses to get noticed and for users to find reliable services in their area. The site is currently limited to San Francisco, but it is still in beta and will gradually expand. Users can easily find businesses and leave feedback to help other users make a good decision in the future when booking on Skyara.
